Announcing our new website and videos

Imagine shopping for a new app or even a new phone, but without knowing if you can actually use it. That’s the frustrating reality many people with disabilities face when using technology. Standard Accessibility Reporting (SAR) is aiming to change that. To find out more about SAR’s mission and current work, please visit the new website, standardari.org.

About Standard Accessibility Reporting

SAR is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring transparency to accessibility. We are developing standardized scoring systems for consumer technology products, allowing users to easily understand how accessible a product is. Think of it like a nutrition label for accessibility – a clear, easy-to-understand rating that lets you know if a product works for your needs.

The Standardari.org Website: A Guide to Inclusive Technology

The new Standardari.org website is a central hub for everything related to SAR’s mission. Here’s what you can find:

  • Mission and Vision: Learn about SAR’s goals and how standardized accessibility scoring benefits consumers, businesses, and accessibility advocates alike.
  • The Accessibility Scorecard: Get a sneak peek at the prototype scorecard, which will eventually appear on consumer products. It will include an overall accessibility rating and specific scores for different disability categories like vision, hearing, and mobility.
  • How We Develop Standards: Transparency is key for SAR. The website outlines how SAR members are developing the scoring system, including involvement from industry experts and the disability community.
  • Get Involved: Whether you’re a consumer, a business leader, or an accessibility advocate, StandardARI.org offers ways to get involved. You can subscribe to their newsletter, donate to support their work, or even join their membership program for a deeper dive..

Why these Standards are Important

The launch of Standardari.org is a significant step towards a more inclusive digital world. Here’s why it matters:

  • Empowering Consumers: Standardized accessibility scoring will allow people with disabilities to make informed choices about the technology they purchase.
  • Incentivizing Accessibility: Businesses that prioritize accessibility will be recognized with high scores, encouraging a focus on inclusive design.
  • A Unified Voice for Accessibility: SAR is building a strong community of stakeholders all working towards the same goal – making technology accessible to everyone.

The Future of Accessibility

StandardARI.org is just the beginning. As we continue developing a scoring system and gaining industry support, the website will become an invaluable resource for anyone interested in a more inclusive digital future. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting initiative, and get involved in making technology accessible for all!

SAR Launches YouTube Video Channel

Today we are launching our first videos as part of a series providing an overview of our mission, how we are developing standards, interesting questions and more.

Our sincere thanks to our members for their help in making the first videos: Tamman (Marty Malloy, Steve Levine and their A.V. Team), plus SAR’s Claudio Vera, and Bri Norton.

Website Thanks!

Our sincere thanks to the whole team at our member organization, Accessibility Works for giving us this site and taking over the hosting for us. Dave Gibson and his crew have delivered a sleek, modern looking site.

From the SAR team, Claudio Vera and Bri Norton have been instrumental in getting the site together. Thanks also to other SAR members for their reviews and feedback during the process. It’s been a terrific effort!
